Experiencing Maskne?
Maskne
2020 is a year not to be forgotten. A year full of uncertainty and self-reflection. Everyone has been affected somehow by the events of this past year in one way or another.
In the earlier part of the year, during the quarantine period, our personal care may not have been what it was prior. Our skincare routine, possibly our hair color, and our overall health may have not been given the attention it needed. With the added requirement of wearing a face mask to protect our health, a new skin condition has developed, Maskne.
No matter the age or the gender, Maskne is having a huge impact on the health of our skin. Skin irritations, breakouts, and full-blown acne is an everyday occurrence. So much so, a specific name has been given to describe this new skin problem.
How do we treat Maskne, particularly now that wearing a face mask is part of our daily routine? Let’s start with understanding the whys behind Maskne and then look for solutions.
What causes this new skin condition?
Pressure and bacteria are two culprits in causing skin irritation and infection. Unfortunately for our skin, a facial mask causes both. The constant friction/pressure is causing the skin to become irritated. Due to the oils, sweat, and bacteria trapped under the mask, acne forms.
Solution:
Cleansing is the number one step in keeping our skin clean. It may be necessary to cleanse a little more often but you want to be careful that you don’t over-cleanse either. With the weather changing and less humidity in the air, you may consider switching to the Liquid Loofah Cleanser Lite if you are experiencing dry skin. If your skin is oily to normal, stick to the regular Liquid Loofah Cleanser. Rinse well ensuring you are flushing all the toxins from your skin.
Another number one priority to clearing your skin from Maskne is to be sure you wear a clean mask every day. You may even consider having several clean masks you can switch out throughout the day particularly if your skin is really acting up.
Next, incorporate the Nutrient Serum into your daily skincare regimen. Our recently reformulated Nutrient Serum has incredible benefits to healing acne. Active ingredients such as Bakuchiol helps with the four stages of acne, as well as niacin, peptides, and green tea leaf extract. Use morning and night.
Weekly facial treatments will also help to keep the acne at bay.
Get into a weekly routine with any of our award-winning masks that will benefit your skin as you look to improve the Maskne. Each treatment mask deeply cleanses, gently exfoliates, and increases circulation within the skin. This increased circulation is going to assist in the healing of the skin.
We all know that keeping up with a daily skincare routine is key in keeping our skin healthy and radiant. However, healing Maskne goes beyond skincare. Wearing clean makeup is just as important. For example, if you wear a foundation that is not water-based, you will continue to clog the pores you are trying to keep clean. All makeup should be water-based!
The final skin tip, when you don’t need to wear a mask – don’t. It’s true that sometimes we have to do a wrong in order to make a right. Just use some good common sense, be aware, and be diligent in your skincare routine. GINAMARIE is here to help you meet your skin wellness goals so don’t hesitate to reach out anytime.
Stay well!
