The 3rd Requirement of Skin

The 3rd Requirement of Skin

Topically Nourish
In the past few weeks, we have been taking a closer look at what our skin needs to stay healthy and protect us from the world we live in. My philosophy for caring for skin is of a holistic nature. I firmly believe that when we encompass the whole of our client we can achieve so much more. I also feel strongly that the industry needs to put the science of skin back into skincare (more on this topic to come).
A Reminder of the 5 Requirements of Skin
  1. Proper Cleansing
  2. Toning Muscles / Increasing Circulation
  3. Topically Nourish
  4. Moisture Support
  5. Maintaining a Proper pH Balance
Today we will delve deeper into the 3rd requirementTopically Nourish. As with any other organ of our body, our skin requires nourishment. Because skin is two-sided, the inside takes care of itself.  Our main role, as skin professionals, is to properly care for the skin we are licensed to treat and then teach our clients to do the same. When we are deficient in providing what the largest organ requires we can expect compromised skin. Topically nourishing the skin plays a pivotal role in healing skin and maintaining healthy skin. To nourish anything, whether internally or externally, it must be achieved through two main components:
1. A Good Quality of Blood – A well-balanced diet plays a pivotal role in maintaining optimal blood health as well as the oxygen we breathe.
2. Excellent Blood Flow – Our circulation is what brings nourishment to every living cell in our body and it also takes away the toxin.
**If we are lacking in either of these areas, we risk compromising our overall health, which includes our skin!
In order to topically nourish our skin, there are several methods available:
1.  Skincare products used in and out of the treatment room have an enormous impact on keeping our skin nourished.
2. Massage is an excellent, therapeutic, natural means to increase circulation within the skin.
3. Machines and modalities can be beneficial in bringing circulation to the layers of the skin, in turn bringing nourishment to the cells.
Daily Skincare With Beneficial Ingredients
Of the above methods mentioned, skincare products are the most effective means to topically nourish the skin on a daily basis. Prescribing home care is a must if the client’s skin is to improve. It is impossible to have healthy skin without meeting the requirements of skin (the organ) on a daily basis. This is a perfect example of putting the science of skin back into skincare that I referred to earlier in this article.
Advanced skin treatments are a bonus and a means to elevate the skin to its optimal health. However, once-a-week or once-a-month treatments will not be enough to continually nourish the skin.
Remember, it’s all about the blood – healthy blood and excellent blood flow – daily.
Ingredients that Topically Nourish Skin
Niacinamide/Niacin enhances blood flow and oxygen delivery to the skin, improving overall skin health.
Ginseng boosts circulation and revitalizes the skin by increasing blood flow.
Peppermint Oil has a cooling effect and stimulates blood flow to the surface of the skin.
Vitamin C promotes the production of collagen, improving blood flow and giving skin a radiant appearance.
Green Tea Extract is rich in antioxidants, and green tea extract enhances circulation and reduces inflammation.
Bakuchiol improves blood flow and skin cell turnover, leading to a healthier complexion.
Rosemary Extract stimulates blood circulation and has antioxidant properties.
Hyaluronic Acid while primarily known for hydration, it can enhance blood flow by improving the skin’s moisture balance.
Aloe Vera increases circulation and has anti-inflammatory properties.
To sum it up, our diet, exercise, and the products we use daily directly influence the nourishment and health of our skin. Providing the right nutrients and keeping the blood flow working at peak capacity is essential for maintaining optimal skin health. Isn’t this the goal for our clients ~ healthy, radiant skin?
